Great Hexpectations Review

Author: H.P. Mallory
Release Date: Oct 28, 2011
Publisher: Indie
Source: Author/ Barnes and Noble
Rating: 5 Stars!

Description:

A misunderstanding turned deadly.
A fairy in law enforcement who won't stop until the truth is uncovered.
A vampire who seems to be her ally but appearances can be deceiving.
And a partner who would put his own life on the line to defend hers.

Dulcie O'Neil knows she's at fault for failing to arrest a wanted criminal but when her partner gets pinned for the crime, she'll stop at nothing to ensure his innocence.

What Dulcie isn't planning on is a trip to the infamous Netherworld where chaos rules.

Between battling the affections of a mysterious vampire, protecting herself from monsters and ensuring the innocence of the one man who would die for her, Dulcie's trip to the Netherworld isn't sunshine and strawberry daiquiris.

I have a great love for H.P Mallory's books and Great Hexpectations is no exception.

In Great Hexpectations we get to delve a little more into Dulcie's life.

Dulcie O' Neil has dealt with a great deal of drama in the last year... not to mention having to deal with the guilt that she let her evil boss Quillen get away in the first book.

Great Hexpectations beings all of Dulcie's guilt to a head when her new boyfriend Knightly Vander is arrested for not apprehending Quillen when given the opperunity. Unfortunetly Knight has been taken to the Netherworld to await his trial.

The Netherworld is very different from earth. Its much like hell, with outlandish creatures and no shortage of evil deads going down. Every creature appears in their true form in the Neatherworld... meaning Dulcie has uncontrollable wings and no magic to help her.

Luckily she did bring along something very important to help her in her journey... Bram... but not without a few crazy demands on Bram's part.

While trying to stand up and take responsibility for what she did, Dulcie finds herself thrown in prison along with Knight. Prison is a very dangerous place for a fairy, because they are very rare in the Netherworld and highly desired.

As Dulcie gets closer to getting answers, Knight's and Dulcie's time together is dwindling. There is one person standing between them and freedom... The head of the Netherworld... who has it out for Knight... but he is also more than meets the eye!

This ending is going to leave you shocked! As I read the last line of the book my jaw just dropped... I have never in my life seen a cliff hanger quite like this one. I was hooked from page one until the very last page and am screaming for more... I need the next book and soon!

Dulie has grown up a bit in this book. I felt that she seems to better understand the world around her and is coming more into herself and what we can expect from her in future books.

Mallory's writing is delightfully detailed. Great Hexpectations is charming, sexy, kick ass and hilarious. Another hit for Mallory. I can't wait to see whats next for Knight and Dulcie.

ChristyStudio Review and Giveaway

I got the honor to work with a super friendly seller on Etsy this week. Her name is Christy and she is the owner of ChristyStudio. ChristyStudio makes handbags for everyday use. I got to review the Kylie bag. It is a messenger style bag that can also be used as a purse.

The Kylie I received was gray in color, it has a purplish hue to it, which works great with the color gray it creates. It is made from a canvas material and is lined with a soft cotton material. It has a tan colored lining, which gives the bag a gorgeous designer feel. It is closed by a snap closure that you run through a ring to keep the bag secure. It has a large outside pocket that is perfect to hold a magazine or phone/ computer chargers. It is also lined with pockets inside. There are two large pockets on one side and a cell phone and pen pocket on the other side. Going from work day to night out is easy with Kylie, it has an adjustable strap, it can go from messenger to shoulder bag in no time flat!

I can fit everything in this bag. I have my Nook Color, 2 books, 4 chargers (one being a laptop charger), lip balm, 2 cell phones, couple snacks, my 15.6 inch laptop, and my wallet... I still have room for more!

Christy is located in Malaysia. I was thinking that I would have to wait forever to receive this bag, seeing the distance that it had to go to get to me. I received my Kylie bag within 6 days of my initial order, and that is including the weekend when DHL doesn't deliver. I was so surprised that my bag came so quickly.

Something really blew me away from working with Christy. She has amazing customer service etiquette, I have never dealt with a more friendly seller. Upon speaking with her, it was like talking with a friend I haven't seen in a few years, which was refreshing. She is eager to make sure that your purchasing experience with her, will be nothing but easy and pleasing.

There is one thing that did bother me about my Kylie messenger.... I now have the need to get it in every color going! I love this bag. For once, I am at a lose to critique anything, because it is blissfully perfect!

IF ONLY I HAD A RATING SYSTEM THAT WENT HIGHER... EVERY STAR IN THE SKY ISN'T ENOUGH TO DO THIS BAG JUSTICE!

Claimed Review

Title: Claimed
Author:  Lauren Barnholdt and Aaron Gorvine
Release Date: Unknown
Publisher: Indie
Source: Bought/ Nook
Series: Witches of Santa Anna

Description:
Natalia Moore is the new girl at Santa Anna Prep, and all she wants to do is fly under the radar -- get to her classes, meet a few friends, and try not to make a total fool of herself in the meantime. But when handsome and popular Campbell Elliot goes out of his way to be nice to the new girl, Natalia's plan to go unnoticed flies out the window.

Cam’s hot, but he’s completely off-limits. Raine Marsden, the most popular and meanest girl in school, has had her eye on him ever since the summer. And Raine doesn’t like competition.

When Cam goes as far as inviting Natalia to the exclusive weekend party at Raine's house, Raine sets her sights on a new victim. But what Natalia doesn't know is that Raine and her friends are no ordinary mean girls. They have powers most people can only dream of, and nobody will stand in the way of what they want. And what Raine wants is Campbell.

Claimed, the first book in The Witches of Santa Anna series of novellas, proves just how far true love will go and that nothing--not even pure evil--can change your destiny….

After reading claimed I know that I am going to really enjoy the rest of the series. Natalia is new at Santa Anna private school, and before she started she thought this was going to be a new start for her. She was going to make it perfect, have great friends and fly under the radar... Things aren't exactly going as planned.

On Natalia's first day she can't find her locker, then she locks her combination as well as her schedule in the locker and if that wasn't bad enough ... she closed her finger in her locker as well, trying to stop it from closing. Right as she was swearing she looked up and saw the most gorgeous guy at school staring at her.

Cam walks over to Natalia and he opens her locker for her, but not before asking her to go to Raine's house for a party the next day. Raine is the popular girl in school and she has her sights set on Cam ...and Raine gets what Raine wants! No matter what the cost.

I know from reading this first book into the series, that I am going to love this series. Everything about it pulls you in, you have the new girl... who definitely is not fitting in, the hot guy who wants to make her fit in, and the mean girl who hates her the minute she meets her, because the guy she likes is eying the new girl. Man talk about high school! Well with a twist... The mean girls are witches!

The authors' do a great job describing everything right down to the school. I could easily see myself walking through the halls of Santa Anna with Natalia and hating Raine because of the bitch she is. They made Cam drool worthy, as every leading man should be. I wish we had gotten a better description on how Natalia looks though, basically all you get is she is pale with long dark hair... not a whole lot to go on there. It didn't effect the terrific story line though. I will be reading the rest of the books in the series!

The Vampire Stalker Review

Author: Allison Van Diepen
Release Date: June 1st 2011
Publisher: Point
Source: Bought/ Nook

Description:

What if the characters in a vampire novel left their world--and came into yours?
Amy is in love with someone who doesn't exist: Alexander Banks, the dashing hero in a popular series of vampire novels. Then one night, Amy meets a boy who bears an eerie resemblance to Alexander. In fact, he IS Alexander, who has escaped from the pages of the book and is in hot pursuit of a wicked vampire named Vigo. Together, Amy and Alexander set out to track Vigo and learn how and why Alexander crossed over. But when she and Alexander begin to fall for each other, Amy wonders if she even wants him to ever return to the realm of fiction.

Okay let me start off this review with expressing my full fledged feelings about this book... ready for it?.... ok here we go... BAHHHHHH!

I went into this book thinking wow... that sounds like a really fabulous concept. I mean how many of us have fallen in love with a character in a book *cough* Edward *cough*, and wished with some part of our being that they were real? I know that I have and with reading a lot of reviews, I know a lot of other people feel that way too about their favorite books. So I thought wow... I have to read this, it is a really interesting concept with a delicious plot line. Um...Yeah...No!

I have never in my life read a book, that I was praying that the end would come soon. It's not that it was poorly written, but it reminded me of a teenager's view being written by someone that is 90. It was annoying. It reminded me of someone mocking Twilight fans. It is about a girl who falls in love with a vampire hunter from her favorite book and then he comes into her world. Delusional is what comes to mind. It didn't seem as though he was real and in her world at all. It reminded me of a young girl who is schizophrenic and seeing things. Not my idea of a fabulous book.

I am actually a little bit disappointed that I actually paid money for this book. If it weren't for the authors uncanny attention to detail, I wouldn't have given this a rating at all. I have loved other books by this author... Just not this one, but this book also won't deter me from reading her other books.

A Werewolf In The North Woods: Review and Giveaway

Author: Vicki Lewis Thompson
Release Date: Oct, 4th 2011
Publisher: Signet/ Penguin
Source: Bought/ Nook

Description:
When Abby Maddox's grandfather swears he saw Bigfoot in the woods behind his Portland, Oregon, home, his neighbors decide to bring in a prominent anthropologist to prove him wrong. Rather than see her grandpa made a laughing stock, Abby sets out to send the professor packing...until she sees how hot he is.

Roark Wallace can't risk having tourists comb the woods for Bigfoot-not with a local pack of werewolves to protect. When Roark meets Abby, sparks fly-but can he pursue this fiery red-head without compromising his pack?

Abby is headed up to the north woods to stay with her Grandpa Earl for a week. Grandpa Earl thinks that he has seen a Bigfoot mated pair, and he has proof! He took a picture of them. Unfortunately the picture he took is too fuzzy to see anything clearly. Abby is going to prove what what Earl saw was real, that way she can get him to move back to Phoenix with her and her family.

Roark arrives in the north woods to do two things. Make sure that everyone believes that Earl's story is a hoax and to find the mated big foot pair. Roark wants to make sure that no one believes Earl because bigfoot are extremely rare and if the wrong people find them, they would wind up dead or in a zoo as a spectacle for everyone to see. This seems like an open and shut case.... until he meets Abby.

The minute Abby walks into the room at Roark's speech to prove Earl was seeing things. He is captivated by Abby's scent and knows he is in trouble. He wants nothing more then to mate with this little redhead, but he can't so that to his species. His brother Aidan mated with a human, and it's possible that they won't have any Werewolf children, which could very well end the Wallace bloodline.

Abby is taking a walk in the woods one day attempting to find bigfoot, when she makes an interesting discovery. She just watched Roark shift into a werewolf! Not being able to believe her eyes she takes pictures of him through his entire shift from human to wolf. Not only does she have amazing evidence, but she is using it to blackmail him into taking her into the woods with him to find bigfoot.

Roark is in big trouble. He is going to be alone with her up in the woods, nothing stopping him from falling into bed....err...tent with Abby. Roark tries all he can to push Abby away and keep her at a distance but he can't and before they both know it, they are falling for each other. But Roark feels that no matter what there is no way that this can end happily for either of them....

This was an amazing book. Right from page one I was brought into the world of Abby and Roark. We even got to see Aidan, which was a great surprise. You can feel their passion and you know their pain throughout the book. Thompson writes with such a passion, that each page leaves you breathless and wishing you had just a taste more. I read this book start to finish in about 3 hours. I just couldn't put it down... I even ate dinner with my Nook propped up in front of me so I could eat and read. I cannot wait to see more of this series.

What a fantastic Halloween Read!

Witches Hate Vampires Review

Author: Jennifer Hampton
Publisher: Indie
Release Date: March 28, 2011
Source: Nook

Description:
Tasmin McCaw is not your average human. In fact, she’s Witch. She made the discovery when she was twelve. The war with Russia has become so corrupt, that it’s robbed man of their humanity. Tasmin’s family fall victim to the wrath of ruthless soldiers. They've come to deploy the men in her family onto the battlefield. They remove her father and only brother from their home, but that’s not all they wanted. The night turns tragic when the soldiers decide to attack Tasmin and her mother. However, Tasmin’s wrath is a bit more intense than the soldiers anticipated. Tasmin is an adopted child and she’s a descendent from a very powerful bloodline of witches. Tasmin’s power strikes tragedy on the soldiers and saves her mother.

Now, as refugees, Tasmin and her mother must flee to The Dark Coast where prosperity reigns. A place where the world is ruled by constant cloud cover. A place where Tasmin will never see the sun. The one place where rumors circulate that creatures like her walk the lands. However, Witches aren’t the only creatures that roam the Dark Coast. Tasmin encounters a very arrogant and powerful Vampire named Adrian. For the first time, Tasmin’s powers, her humility, and her rage will be tested. Witches hate Vampires, but Adrian has fallen in love with her. Can her feelings surpass the loathing for the one creature Witches have grown to detest?

Tasmin is a witch with extraordinary powers. When she was a baby she was left on her parents doorstep with nothing but a necklace tying her to her birth parents. When Tasmin was 12 soldiers came and took her brother and father from the family, and before leaving they raped Tasmin's mother, and were going to rape her as well but she had so much anger in her that it killed all the soldiers that were in her room.

Now Tasmin and her mother are headed to the east coast. They have great hopes for their new lives. Instead of bouncing around from place to place, they will finally be able to settle in. Tasmin's mom has found a job house sitting for some wealthy people and she also found a job doing receptionist work. For once things seem to be looking up... little do they know that something strange is about to happen.

While taking pictures of a spider up in a tree (it's kind of her thing, they understand each other) Tasmin spots a man below the tree feeding on a deer. When the branch that she is on breaks she falls right into the man's arms. He introduces himself as Adrian and he is a vampire. Slowly they begin developing a relationship that begins leading to stronger feelings. Nothing can happen between them tho... it's a law that witches and vampires can't be together. Witches hate vampires.... or do they?

This was a great story about love and loss. You can feel Tasmin's pain that she has had to live with for so long. The pain that was thrust upon her by the soldiers and from being an outcast, never being able to fit in because of what she is. That is until she meets Adrian who accepts her for what she is... and he loves that. Adrian attempts to make Tasmin's pain go away, but only Tasmin can do that, she just doesn't know it yet.

Everything about this book called out to me. It really is a little bit tragic and with Halloween around the corner nothing is better than vampires and witches! This was a very quick read. I finished it in an hour and a half to two hours. I did notice that there are a lot of grammar mistakes and spelling mistakes, which did bother me a bit, but I didn't let them distract me from the story. I will be adding more books from Jennifer Hampton to my delicious indie author pile in the future!

A Werewolf In Manhatten Review

Author: Vicki Lewis Thompson
Release Date: January 4th 2011
Publisher: Signet/ Penguin Group
Source: Nook Book

Description:
Emma Gavin writes about werewolves, but that doesn't mean she believes in them-not until a pack of real-life New York weres decide to investigate the striking accuracy of her "fiction".
When Aiden Wallace, son and heir of the pack leader, tries to sniff out Emma's potential informant, he discovers something even more dangerous- an undeniable attraction to her.

Emma Gavin is a best selling author. She makes her living off of writing romance novels about werewolves. Not that they are real or anything like that, but she has been getting creepy emails from a guy that is claiming he is a werewolf and would love to get his hands on Emma.

Aidan Wallace is the crowned prince of the Wallace werewolf pack. He has been given the duty of watching over Emma ever since her books raised some red flags. The pack thinks she may have a source telling her things about werewolves. No one can be that accurate with no reliable source... or can they?

Aidan is a huge fan of Emma's he owns, and has read every single book she has written, but even more than that her scent is driving him crazy. Not that he can act on it though, he has duties as a prince that keep him from mating anyone but Nadia, a she-wolf that belongs to another substantial werewolf family. Merging the two packs is important and Aidan is going to keep his word to his family... even if it costs him his heart.

The minute Aidan hears about the email that Emma received he offers to do some investigating to help figure out who is sending them to her. It's exactly as Aidan fears... a rouge werewolf that is ready to expose all werewolves in order to get to Emma, even worse is that he is next in line to be alpha of a very prestigious werewolf family. With Emma going on tour and with Aidan bound to protect her.. he will be accompanying her on her tour. This trip is going to test both Aidan's loyalty to his pack and if he is willing to risk his heart...

I am in love with this book. Right from the get go you get pulled into Emma's life as a writer and how Aidan has been watching her from afar. I could tell from the first few pages of the book that this was going to be a deliciously fast paced book. Not once was I bored with the story line and never did anything feel rushed or cut short. You can tell as the book progresses how Emma and Aidan are beginning to form a really strong bond and how much they care about each other.

The author didn't skimp on anything. Everything is very well described in fantastic detail, I could envision exactly how everything was meant to look, right down to Aidan's expensive and flashy watch. I loved how the two main characters were always hitting heads because Emma is so stubborn. It made for a funny and engaging read.

This is a book geared for the 18 and over crowd, just for a heads up. There is a lot of explicit sex scenes, which when reading the book are perfectly placed. I just think if you are teen reading this review you may want to choose a different book due to the sex scenes.

Overall I wish I could have given this more stars but...
Its all I've got!

It is a huge deal... and while getting ready to go she was flustered when she put a spell on her broomstick, that would carry her there. Sophie decides that she needs to use a persuasion spell to get the handsome stranger working at the garage to take her to the ceremony.... the issue is its 8 hours away in a different state.

This is the perfect paranormal romance to start out my Halloween reading frenzy. I love how the relationship develops between Sophia and Aiden, its sweet, steamy romantic and awkward. Just like any romance should be starting out. This is a great Halloween read because Sophia isn't Glinda the good witch, in fact she is a dark witch that worships satan and Aiden is a tall, dark and sexy shifter. Sophia and Aiden have to overcome impossible odds, with them being of two different species. I can't wait to read more from this author, she brought the book to life, and had me routing for Sophia and Aiden! Lola and The Boy Next Door Review and Giveaway

Title: Lola and The Boy Next Door
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile
Release Date: September 29th, 2011
Source: Jamie (Thanks Jamie!!)

Description:
In this companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss, two teens discover that true love may be closer than they think

Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit - more sparkly, more fun, more wild - the better. But even though Lola's style is outrageous, she's a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket - a gifted inventor - steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Lola is living the good life. She has a gorgeous rocker boyfriend who worships the ground she walks on. Two dads that love her unconditionally. A very loyal best friend. Oh yeah and a smoking hot neighbor, that has been in love with her since they have been kids. Things just got complicated.

Cricket Bell has just moved back in next door to Lola after moving away for his sister Calliope's ice skating career. He is now in college and wow he is even more hot than she remembers. Cricket hurt Lola more than anyone else could though and she still hasn't gotten over it, so instead of being happy that he is back... she is filled with dread. She doesn't want to have to relive her painful past with him. Plus his twin sister Calliope isn't helping. She is making it very clear that she wants Lola nowhere near her brother. That's not a problem though... Lola has a boyfriend.

Max is Lola's rocker boyfriend, he is twenty two and can really shred on a guitar. He is sexy and he wants Lola. Sounds great right? Then why can't she stop thinking about Cricket? Will Lola put the past behind her and rekindle the love that her and Cricket once shared? or will her pride and Max keep them apart.

Overall this is a good book. I spent most of the book wondering if Max and Lola every did anything other than make out and have sex. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of a relationship there. I know that they were supposed to be a couple, but even on dates they found a place to maul each other. I really wish that there had been some sort of a connection with them other than a sexual one.

I really liked how Cricket and Lola were developing their relationship. It was slow but building and there wasn't any mauling. They knew each other on a much deeper level than Lola and Max did and in a way it bothered me a little bit. I began to hate any scene that Max was in. He is immature for his age, and the 5 year age difference seemed to be the wrong message to send out.

Cricket's character is sweet and caring. He was written in a very complex way. You get to see the inner workings of his brain as he is thinking, and I knew exactly what he looked like from the description that Perkins' wrote. He was by far my favorite character, I enjoyed him more than Lola.

I really can't bring myself to give this book 5 stars. It was a book that I was highly anticipating and it was just a huge disappointment to me.

In My Mailbox 10/2

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. It is a meme where you make a blog post about the books that received in the mail this week... or on your e-reader! Check out The Story Siren to learn more about participating!

I got a ton of books this week! Some are physical copies and some were bought from Amazon for my Kindle 3, and I received a couple for review. My camera is currently broken so I wasn't able to take any pictures of the books for you, but Amazon has a great widget that looks great and you can see all the books I got this week.

This week was an awesome week for book releases, I got a ton of delicious titles. One that I was super stoked to see in my mailbox this week was Everneath by Brodi Ashton. Make sure that you check out my review and the giveaway!

What did you get in your mailbox?

On My Wishlist 10/1

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where we list all the books we desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It's also an event that you can join in with too - Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own 'On My Wishlist' post. Want to know more? Click here.

I have quite a few books On My Wishlist this week. Normally I am able to narrow it down to just one but I just wasn't able to do that this week. So here they are!

Title: A Million Suns: An Across The Universe Novel
Author: Beth Revis
Release Date: January 10th 2012
Publisher: Razorbill

Description:
Godspeed was fueled by lies. Now it is ruled by chaos.

It's been three months since Amy was unplugged. The life she always knew is over. And everywhere she looks, she sees the walls of the spaceship Godspeed. But there may just be hope: Elder has assumed leadership of the ship. He's finally free to enact his vision - no more Phydus, no more lies.

But when Elder discovers shocking news about the ship, he and Amy race to discover the truth behind life on Godspeed. They must work together to unlock a puzzle that was set in motion hundreds of years earlier, unable to fight the romance that's growing between them and the chaos that threatens to tear them apart.

In book two of the Across the Universe trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis mesmerizes us again with a brilliantly crafted mystery filled with action, suspense, romance, and deep philosophical questions. And this time it all builds to one mind-bending conclusion: They have to get off this ship.

Title: Hollowmen
Author: Amanda Hocking
Release Date: To Be Announced
Publisher: Indie

Description:
After six months in the quarantine, Remy finds out things are much worse than she feared. Her plans to escape come with a heavy cost, and she realizes that zombies aren't the worst of her problems.

I can't help but want this book! The first one left off with such a cliff hanger. There isn't much of a description yet on it, but the little tease makes me want more. Amanda Hocking has been releasing updates about it on her blog, and the progress she is making on it. Last update stated that she hopes to release it in November. I just can't wait! You better believe I will be one of the first in line for this one.
