Welcome to Nightshade, California—a small town full of secrets. It’s home to the pyschic Giordano sisters, who have a way of getting mixed up in mysteries. During their investigations, they run across everything from pom-pom-shaking vampires to shape-shifting boyfriends to a clue-spewing jukebox. With their psychic powers and some sisterly support, they can crack any case!
Teenage girls are being mysteriously attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy Giordano is a junior. When Daisy discovers that a vampire may be the culprit, she can’t help but suspect head cheerleader Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new “look.” Samantha appears a little . . . well, dead, and all the most popular kids at school are copying her style.
Is looking dead just another fashion trend for Samantha, or is there something more sinister going on? To find out, Daisy joins the cheerleading squad.

Something is going on in Nightshade, California. Cheerleaders are getting sick and others are dying. What could be happening to them? Daisy is determined to find out!

Daisy is far from popular, she lives her life day to day at Nightshade High. Although her life might seem ordinary, Daisy is anything but normal! She lives in a house full of physics, She has had a crush on her childhood friend Ryan for as long as she can remember, and all of a sudden the captin of the cheerleading squad wants to be her best friend.

When a cheerleader ends up dead and at the morgue in Nightshade, Daisy's mom is called in to work on the case with Ryan's dad, the chief of police. But when Daisy's mom keeps coming up empty handed she tries to enlist the help of Daisy's sister Rose who is also physic, which leaves Daisy feeling excluded from her mom and two sisters yet again. Daisy decides that she is going to help her mom and figure out who the killer is, before there is another victim.

Daisy enlists the help of Ryan, the police chief's son and her long time crush, to help her investigate. As Daisy and Ryan begin to develop more of a relationship between them, they begin coming dangerously close to the truth, so close that the person reeking havoc on Nightshade, will do anything to stop them!

Dead Is The New Black is romantic, suspenseful, and breath taking. Its very seldom that I have a book that kept my attention as much as this one. It is a rather short story... its only 190 pages long, but I also found myself so engrossed in the story that I couldn't step away from it, even for a moment. I liked how Perez developed Daisy and Ryan's budding romance, she didn't make it so that they were together from the get go. They had to work on it, get to know each other better, it was very refreshing.

I loved Daisy's family. Her mom and two sisters are psychics and seem to have a bond about them, in which Daisy is left out in many instances, but not in a cruel way. Her sisters are hilarious! it made me wish that I had a sister like hers while I was growing up. She knew she could depend on them, no matter what.

Marlene Perez hit it out of the park with Dead Is The New Black! Not once was I bored or distracted with anything else... it was all about the story. If you haven't read Dead Is The New Black, I suggest that you do, it takes a very interesting take on vampires, which makes the story very original. I can't wait to read the sequel Dead Is a State of Mind, which I intend on digging into within a day or two. I just can't seem to get enough of Marlene Perez's writing! Its truly addicting.
