Description:
Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn’t seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she’s coming to terms with her father’s death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself.

My Thoughts:
I really liked Amy and Roger's Epic Detour. Was it the best book I have ever read... No, but it definitely wasn't the worst either. I also got to read this on a little road trip of my own, which I think made me enjoy it just a little bit more than if I was sitting home on the couch reading.

Amy's dad dies and her mom goes ahead to their new home in Connecticut to start a new life with less "memories". Amy is supposed to join her mom and drive the car to their new home, there is only one issue with this plan... Amy won't drive after her dad died in a car accident. So her mom enlists the help of Roger, her friends son. Amy is not looking forward to traveling across country with someone that she barely knows.

Throughout the trip Amy is working on coming to terms with her dad passing away, which is hard when she hasn't quite accepted that he's dead. Meanwhile Roger is working on an issue of his own in the name of Hadley. His ex girlfriend that he still isn't over. So as a solution to both of there problems they decide to go off of the itinerary that Amy's mom gave them, and take a bit of a detour.

Roger becomes just a little creepy to me with his obsession with his ex-girlfriend Hadley. He is trying to find out where she is staying so that he can talk to her. She isn't returning his call or texts, but he keeps on trying to reach her anyway that he can.

Along the way Amy begins to develop a crush on Roger but is determined to help him find Hadley and work out whatever it is he is trying to work out. I love how there are snippits in the book such as Roger's playlist (which is present at the beginning of each chapter), Receipts from their purchases along the way, and notes that she receives from Roger's friend. It makes you feel as though you are going on this adventure with them. Along the way you meet some of Roger's friends, and they make a few new ones.

From the minute I picked this up, I didn't put it down. I had to finish it in one sitting. If you are looking for a quick, fun read that will keep you interested from page one until the very last page. You should definitely check this out!

Rating: 9/10
